Christie's hosts Fine Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy sales twice a year in Hong Kong and New York, featuring both Classical and Modern paintings, offering the best calligraphic and painting works by prominent ink and brush artists. Christie’s remains the auction house of choice for the most important private collections that have been sold in recent years.
The Classical section consists mainly of works by artists active before the late Qing Dynasty (19th century), while the Modern portion offers a fine spectrum of works that date from late 19th century and 20th century onwards. Artists included in this category are Fu Baoshi, Zhang Daqian, Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong, all who have made significant contributions to the different schools within Chinese Modern art, innovating and changing the landscape of Chinese art, culture and history.
