Rolex Daytona ‘Lesson One’ Sale Totals $13.2 million / SFr. 12 million 

Christie’s Rolex Daytona “Lesson One” sale, held to mark the 50th anniversary of this iconic model, sold 100% by both lot and value and totalled $13,248,167 / SFr. 12,032,850 / €9,866,937, more than quadrupling its pre-sale estimate. The 50 lot sale set 50 world records including that for the absolute record price for any Rolex Daytona ever sold at auction: an important stainless steel chronograph wristwatch, ref. 6263/6239, Paul Newman model, manufactured in 1969, which sold for $1,088,889 / SFr. 989,000. As International Head of Christie's Watch Department and auctioneer Aurel Bacs commented: ‘Rolex Daytona “Lesson One” will be remembered as an historical event.’
